As members of The Renaissance Company, students will be challenged with the study of advanced music literature, singing styles and music theory. Students will explore these elements through the study of musical theatre literature and practical application to their performance pieces. Musical Theatre literature pieces may include, but are not limited to: a musical score, a production number, solo literature, or a custom-written medley. Within this course of study, members of the Renaissance Company will continue exploring their music literacy by including intermediate-advanced music theory and musical analysis in their rehearsal processes. They will, with this ensemble, exit this program with a strong understanding of music notation and the ability to casually navigate an advanced piece of music notation, as well ability to function at a minimum of an intermediate level at sight-singing musical theatre literature.
The Renaissance Company will, as a part of their training tuition, be placed into the Singing Styles course. Under the instruction of the Director of Music, students will explore various vocal techniques relevant to the current landscape of Broadway. The purpose of this class is to strengthen individual vocal technique in a group setting, while introducing the differing vocal techniques used to create vocal stylings. This contributes both to a performer as an individual and to their contribution to the ensemble, as they strengthen vocal abilities, learn proper vocal technique and vocal health. This class will reinforce music literacy and theory lessons being taught and utilized throughout Renaissance Performing Arts Company.
