As members of the Renaissance Company, students will continue to explore theatre history, advanced theatre techniques and rehearsal standards. Students will explore these elements through the study of musical theatre literature and practical application to their performance pieces. Within this course of study, members of the Renaissance Company will become comfortable with the practice of theatre performance and theatre interpretation. Students will have the ability to process an understanding of how to interpret a performance, both as an audience member and from the standpoint of a performer. They will become comfortable or continue to develop a relationship with stage presence, understanding script analysis, physical body movement and performance study. They will, within this ensemble, exit this program with a strong understanding of theatre standards, rehearsal expectations, and the ability to explore a story in a creative and physical manner.
The Renaissance Company will have a strong emphasis on techniques meant to give the skills to become a well-rounded performer. Skills that students acquire will prepare them for a career both in and out of the performing arts. During the course of their rehearsal process, this group will receive instruction in various acting techniques including Chekhov, Adler, Hagen, and more to continue to strengthen their conference as an actor and a public speaker. Additionally, the Renaissance Company will explore scene study, both through the lens of traditional theatre and through the lens of a musical theatre performer.
In February of 2026, Renaissance Company will travel to the Musical Theatre Competitions of America in Anaheim, California, where they will perform and receive group and individual performance feedback and instruction from current industry professionals working in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Upon their return, students will, under the guidance of their directors, use the techniques they have developed in the first semester to create a student-directed showcase. The intention behind this performance opportunity is to continue to strengthen students’ knowledge and understanding all sides of the theatre industry. They will work with mentors of professional artists to develop, produce, direct and choreograph a showcase of their talents, featuring a cast and production staff of their peers in The Renaissance Company.
